A Quick Guide to Using the Logitech Quickcam Messenger Cameras

-------------------------------------------------------------

Many of the variables about the picture that the camera gives you
are controllable. These include brightness, contrast, white balance,
and so on.

To control these variables, there is a panel available through an icon
on the task bar that looks roughly like a white USB camera. To open
the panel, double click on the icon. Be sure to have the camera attached
to the computer first!

Most of the "interesting" settings are available through the
"Advanced Settings" button. Click this and you will see a row
of slider bars that let you control a great number of the camera's parameters.
You should experement with various seetings to see what gives you the
best results. This panel updates the camera in real time, so if you are
running a program (such as the Driver sample) that displays the output in
real time, you should see the effects of your changes.

Two settings are key to the operation of the camera and may give
you trouble, so you should definately play with them to see what
gives you the best results.

The Auto White Balance can be disabled by clearing the check box in
the "Device Settings" tab. You will also want to experiment with turning
off "Automatic Gain Control" in the "Advanced" tab. Sometimes these settings
are reset when the camera is reinitialized by your program, so you will
want to check them often! In fact, auto-gain is turned on every time you
initialize the camera, I'm afraid! You should also check these settings when you
first start using the camera to be sure that another team has not adjusted
them previously.

The cameras also have a focus knob around the lens that can be adjusted
by turning. You can also feel free to point the camera however you like.
